The House of Illustration is near King’s Cross Station and is the the UK’s only public gallery dedicated to illustration. When Ted visited there were two exhibitions- one of E H Shepard’s work and the other about Lauren Child’s dolls’ house.
Both exhibitions were very interesting, but Ted preferred the Lauren Child one! Her dolls’ house contains things that she made herself alongside things she bought specially and objects she has found and thinks will look good.
The gallery also contained illustrations from her books, including room boxes from ‘The Princess and the Pea’. Lauren Child uses mixed media to create her pictures which are full of humour.
If you’re looking for a good read this holiday, try one of Lauren Child’s picture books- That Pesky Rat, Clarice Bean That’s Me or one of the Charlie and Lola titles. For those wanting a longer read, there are the Clarice Bean novels or the Ruby Redfort books. Have fun!
