Super Sports Day!

Hello Everyone…5b are back online with the blogging!

Over the past few weeks we have been doing some very exciting things. We are still continuing with our topic ‘Beach Huts, Bathing Suits and Brunel’ and so last Tuesday we went on an exciting trip to St.Fagans in Wales. We all had a lovely time and we learnt a lot about Victorian housing and Victorian school rooms. In Science, we have been continuing with our ‘Levers, Pulleys and Gears’ topic which last week saw the children creating their own gears using cogs. They have also spent time investigating how pulleys can help lift a heavy weight. In Numeracy, we have been learning about scaling and have been thinking about how we could make a recipe bigger or smaller to cook for the correct amount of people. In Literacy, we are continuing with our class reader ‘Street Child’ and the children are still enjoying it; Jim has now escaped from the Work House and after going on the run on the streets of London he has been sold to Grimy Nick…this is not good news for Jim! To support our Victorians topic we have also been on a local walk around Weston – we couldn’t believe how many Victorian houses there are so close to our school! We also spent time sketching the Grand Atlantic hotel on the seafront. Yesterday was Sports Day and I was very impressed with how hard everybody tried and can’t wait to find out the final scores tomorrow!
