Outside Learning

On Monday we were lucky that the Great British weather was on our side as we spent the whole day using the outside areas as our classroom.  We started with an animal hunt where we found hedgehogs, badgers, foxes, barn owls and many more.  We spent time discussing the animals and familasirising ourselves with them and linked this to maths with counting and tallying.  We then shared the story of Percy the Park Keeper and noticed that many of the animals in the books were the same as the ones found.  Using this, we managed to innovate our “The Enormous Turnip” story to substitute in these woodland creatures.  This lead to us creating a story called “The Ginormous Acron”.  We have since used this innovation to form the writing focus in our English sessions over the course of the week.  During the afternoon, we teamed up with Mrs P-M from the Learning Mentor team to go on a mini beast hunt around the wildlife area before sharing roasted marshmallows and hot chocolate around the camp fire…..with the added bonus of holding sparklers! We had a wonderful day outside and can’t wait to do it again soon!
