Happy Tanabata!

Today we have been celebrating the Japanese festival, Tanabata. Tanabata is a Japanese star festival.

We began the day by finding out about Japan and were looking at similarities and differences between life in the UK and life in Japan.

We all had a go at learning a few phrases in Japanese and where able to have a small conversation with friends in the classroom. Marli and Millie really enjoyed it!

After speaking in Japanese, we worked in groups to tell the story of Orihime, Tentei and Hikoboshiimage image image

In present day Japan, people generally celebrate Tanabata by writing wishes on tanzaku, small pieces of paper, and hanging them with other decorations. we all wrote a wish on tanzaku and hung them on the fence outside of our classroom. image

This afternoon we have been busy making origami carp that are hung outside of homes during Tanabata. imageimage

Later on we are going to be star gazing in the star dome…we have had a great day!
