This week (18th-22nd May 2015) has seen the return of Arts Week to Bournville Primary. This is the 3rd week of its kind at the school where the door is opened up to all sorts of different artists from photographers, story tellers, film makers, painters, dancers, actors and more. These many artists have been sharing their skills with both pupils and teachers, with many activities being open to parents and family members too.
Throughout the week, pupils have had the opportunity to take part in some amazing activities such as learning circus skills and painting a huge mural in the corridor or working on outdoor art.
Many of the activities followed a Dragon theme to coincide with Share-a-Story Month and the week ended with an exhibition of artwork created throughout the week and the dragon books that had inspired the work.
Deputy Headteacher and Arts Week Co-ordinator, Mrs. Chris Chaffey said: “The week has been a great success. The children have had the opportunity to work with experts and have enjoyed learning from them and producing some really high quality work. They have also had great fun trying new things and working with their friends and their parents”.
We would like to thank all of our pupils for their amazing contribution to the week, all of the staff, many of whom came in early and stayed late, Boomsatuma film-makers, photographers and mural artists, The Story Cellar, Disco Babies, Re:Act Theatre School and everyone else who helped make the week a success. And of course to all parents and family members who helped, joined in and attended the end of week exhibition.
Arts Week is funded by the school as an integral part of our curriculum. It is important to give children wide experiences that support their learning in as broad a way as possible and give them the chance to develop hidden talents.
