Sorry we have not been in touch sooner but we have been having techincal issues!
But we are now back blogging!
This term our topic is ‘Materials’. We have been learning about materials such as wood, metal, plastic, rubber, textiles and glass.
We have been learning about which materials can be recycled and had our own recycling centre in class. The children then enjoyed going on their first school trip to ‘Carrymore Recycling Centre’.We went on the coach which the children were really excited about. We even took ‘Steve’ and ‘Jamie’ our class puppets. But Steve forgot his welly boots! We learnt about the ‘3 R’s’ reuse, recycle and reduce. We played a recycling race game and then went for a walk to see the landfill site. The children learnt that it was everyones’ responsibility to recycle otherwise we will have too much rubbish. Oscar knew that rubbish would hurt wildlife, he said “it will choke them”.
When we got back we wrote about the trip. “I liked going up the hill” said Jessica. “I liked going on the coach” said Connor. “I liked having my lunch” said Gabriela. The children are getting much better at writing sentences and using their phonics to help them.
Ask your children to help you sort your recycling as they are now offically experts!
