Eye Spy…A fantastic start to term 3!

Hello fans of 6b,

We do apologise for the late blog however things have been so busy in 6b. We wanted to blog to let you know about some of our top things of term 3 so far.

On the first day back to school, we were suprised with a WOW day which introduced our new geography based topic ‘Eye Spy’. We will be learning about rivers this term and our book is The London Eye Mystery.

As part of out WOW day each class in the Upper Key Stage 2 team had an hours dancing session with Leanne. Our class learnt an Irish Riverdance-it was quite confusing to start with but we soon got the hang of it…watch out Michael Flatley!

Our new Power of Reading book has got us on the edge of our seats. A young boy called Salim took a ticket from a strangers whilst waiting to go on the London Eye. His two cousins, Kat and Ted, who were supposed to be looking after him, were left in shock when Salim did not exit the pod that he entered on, despite them tracking his pod during its flight! In literacy we have been writing diary entries, play scripts and more recently a police incident report where we have been learning how to use reported speech.

In numeracy we have been practising written methodsand solving word problems. This week we have been using the chunking method to divide and are now on expressing remainders as fractions.

What makes our topic even more exciting is our WOW trip. On Tuesday year 5 and 6 are off out for the day to London! We are all so excited as not many children in the class have been to London. To mkae the book come alive for us we are taking a flight on the London Eye-we are hoping that we don’t end up in the same situation as Salim though! before the flight on the Eye, we are having a river boat cruise on the Thames.

Can’t wait to lwet you all know how it goes!

See you next week when we will be telling all of our tales from our day in the capital! 🙂
